Forchheimer spots
Forchheimer spots are a fleeting enanthem seen as small, red spots (petechiae) on the soft palate in 20% of patients with rubella.〔Robert Kliegman, Waldo E. Nelson, Hal B. Jenson, Karen J. Marcdante, M.D., Richard E. Behrman. ''Nelson Essentials of Pediatrics'', page 467. Elsevier Health Sciences, 2006. ISBN 978-1-4160-0159-1.〕 They precede or accompany the skin rash of rubella. They are not diagnostic of rubella, as similar spots can be seen in measles and scarlet fever.〔Amer Z. Aldeen, David H. Rosenbaum. ''1,000 Questions to Help You Pass the Emergency Medicine Boards'', page 303. Lippincott Williams & Wilkins, 2007. ISBN 978-0-7817-7718-6.〕
The sign is named after Frederick Forchheimer.
